Why the Dolphin Scholarship?

We know that students face many new challenges every day, but the dependents of military families face an extra set of unique challenges. For students hoping to attend college, building a strong application is crucial.

This process can be made especially difficult for high schoolers of military families who frequently move during this important time in their education, interrupting both studies and community involvement. Efforts to maintain grades while building a community resume, even through national organizations such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and 4H, can be negatively impacted when a child’s efforts are stopped short in one location and must be started anew in another.

Submarine spouses make sacrifices every day to keep the family strong for their service member.  The constant moving and demands of military life as a solo parent during deployments increase the difficulty of finishing a degree program.  DSF hopes to ease the burden by providing financial assistance for continuing education.

The largest scholarship offered specifically for dependents of Submarine Force members, the Dolphin Scholarship, gives our children and spouses an extra opportunity to highlight their unique challenges.

Making a Sound Investment

The Dolphin Scholarship Foundation gratefully acknowledges the financial contributions of individuals, submarine spouse organizations, the submarine community, and corporations whose generosity makes possible our mission to support the education of children/stepchildren of submariners. DSF recognizes their substantial financial support through our Named Scholarship and Endowed Scholarship programs.

Named Scholarships:  Effective July 1, 2008, each $3,500 donation (the amount of an annual Dolphin Scholarship) will be recognized as a one-year Honorary or Memorial Scholarship, named as the donor desires.

Endowed Scholarships:  Each $87,500 donation is recognized as an Endowed Scholarship, named as the donor desires. Endowed Scholarships may be established by a lump sum or aggregate (over 4 years) donation.
